Madam Speaker & Members of Congress,

My fundamental belief is that a free and independent press must be vigorously defended by those who love liberty. In the interest of our 1st Amendment rights and true freedom of speech, I urge you to allow the “Broadcaster Freedom Act” to come to the floor of the House for an up/down vote a.s.a.p.

John F. Kennedy stated, "We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”

The "Broadcaster Freedom Act” will prohibit the Federal Communications Commission from prescribing rules, regulations, or policies that will reinstate the requirement that broadcasters present opposing viewpoints in controversial issues of public importance.

The "Broadcaster Freedom Act" will prevent the FCC or any future Presidents from reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.

This legislation ensures true freedom and fairness will remain on our radio airwaves, and I would encourage Congress to support this bill.

The "Free Speech Protection Act of 2008" ( S-2977 & H.R. 5814), was introduced by U.S. Rep. Pete King (R., N.Y.) and co-sponsored by Rep. Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.), and a Senate companion bill by Senator Arlen Specter (R., PA), and Joseph Lieberman (I- CT); and co-sponsored by NY Senior Senator Chuck Schumer. With Schumer on board, and others joining, the "Free Speech Protection Act of 2008" can be adopted before Congress adjourns this summer. I urge Congress to pass this important legislation in the interest of ALL Americans.

As uniquely blessed people and citizens of the greatest FREE nation in the world, it is the Constitutional right of all Americans to exercise these freedoms as a beacon of hope for mankind. It is with this in mind that I urge Congress to pass the “Broadcaster Freedom Act” and "Free Speech Protection Act of 2008".

On behalf of Americans, your forthright response to the passage of these important bills would once again serve to strengthen and uplift positive attitudes, inspire bi-partisan leadership, and promote unity for the benefit of ALL.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Robert W Butler Jr
